Denpasar – Mapala Kompas ITB STIKOM Bali Advanced Education is an activity that is routinely held by Mapala Kompas ITB STIKOM Bali UKM to select divisions within Mapala UKM. The purpose of carrying out this activity is to elect a membership division of Mapala Kompas every year. This activity was held on 14 – 16 April 2023 at Br. Tabu, Songan Village, District. Kintamani, Bangli Regency, Bali. This Continuing Education is held to “foster new regeneration to improve skills”.
At Mapala Kompas there are 2 divisions namely the Mountain Forest Division and the Rock Climbing Division. In the Mountain Forest Division the material studied is land navigation material, while the Rock Climbing Division learns basic climbing materials, climbing systems, climbing cues, climbing equipment, SRT practice, Top Rope Practice and Free Climbing Practice. Mapala Kompas Continuing Education was attended by 18 participants, 14 of whom chose the Mountain Forest Division and the remaining 4 participants chose the Rock Climbing Division.
On the first day the participants and committee gathered on campus before heading off to the location together. When the departure is complete, it starts at 15.00 – 17.00 WITA, the journey is quite far and there are road problems such as rain. Arriving at the location, the participants built tents and cooked dinner. At night we lit a bonfire to warm ourselves and keep the mosquitoes away. After the bonfire the participants rested in their respective tents to take part in tomorrow’s activities.
On the second day the participants started the activity by reviewing material from each division where the Mountain Forest Division reviewed material and tools used in navigation and the Rock Climbing Division reviewed material on tools used in Rock Climbing, exercises on making knots and snares to be used in Rock Climbing Training and learn the basic signs in Rock Climbing and continue to provide practical material to the participants. The Rock Climbing Division climbs the Songan cliffs with guidance and direction from experts who are experts in their fields. Meanwhile, the Mountain Forest Division practiced aiming using a compass. This activity is held from 08.00 – 18.00 WITA.
The third day is Saturday, April 16 2023. After reviewing the material on the second day and also providing material in theory, we will provide material to the participants in practice. The Mountain Forest Division conducted practice aiming using a compass at Mount Batur. After that the participants also got material maximization to find coordinate points. Meanwhile, the Rock Climbing Division receives free climbing materials. Activities are held from 08.00 – 12.00 WITA. After carrying out the activities of the MCK participants and cleaning the area and dismantling the tents. Before going home the participants and the committee had a meal together.
