DENPASAR – Rector of ITB STIKOM Bali Dr. Dadang Hermawan provided clarification regarding the confusion of higher education institutions outside Bali that use the name STIKOM. The confusion of the name is considered to be disruptive to the existence of ITB STIKOM Bali.
“So I emphasize that there is no connection between ITB STIKOM Bali and STIKOM Bandung, STIKOM Bali is the Institute of Technology and Business, while STIKOM Bali is a brand,” said Dadang Hermawan, Saturday, January 25, 2025.
“Initially it was a computer but now it has become a brand and has been registered with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights as well, while other educational institutions that use the name STIKOM are communication science colleges,” he added.
ITB STIKOM Bali is under the Widya Dharma Shanti Foundation (WDS) and oversees four universities, namely, ITB STIKOM Bali, the National Polytechnic (Polnas), the Ganesha Guru Polytechnic in Singaraja and the Bandung Technology University (UTB).
“Apart from that, there are no other universities under the STIKOM Group that are under the auspices of the Widya Dharma Shanti Foundation,” said Dadang.
It was explained again that ITB STIKOM Bali has four campuses, all of which are in the Bali region.
“So once again, ITB STIKOM Bali has nothing to do with the Bandung Communication College,” explained Dadang Hermawan.
The Widya Dharma Shanti Foundation was established on May 20, 2001. The foundation became the forerunner to the establishment of ITB STIKOM Bali along with other educational institutions.
Dadang said that the nomenclature of STIKOM Bali according to that registered with the Ministry of Higher Education at that time was indeed communication science. However, from the beginning, the institution centered in the Renon area, Denpasar, taught computer science.
“But in other communities, the condition is that Kom refers to computers, then we use the official name STIKOM Bali until now,” said Dadang Hermawan.
In further developments, the establishment permit of the Institute of Technology and Business (ITB) STIKOM Bali was re-submitted to the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education. On August 10, 2002, the institute permit was issued with the number 157/D/O/2002.
